Bill Crawford

Bill Crawford was another pillar of the town.

Active in the transfer business in Stewart's early days, he moved to Alice Arm and operated a pack train during the boom days of the Dolly Varden mine.

He and his family returned to Stewart when the rush started up the Salmon River, big strikes having been made at the famous Premier and Big Missouri mines.

Bill did well in this venture; to the extent that he built his own wharf where the Union Steamship Company's vessels called.

At dances, Bill was a shining light, and ever the life of the party. Mrs. Crawford and their four daughters were all assets to the community.
